*What is
Rising Stars?
Rising Stars is a Destination ImagiNation program
designed especially for children in grades K-2. Teams
have a specially designed challenge (this year it is
called
Hidden!)
to solve with their teammates as creatively as
possible. Students meet the requirements of the
challenge and put a skit together to show how they
solved the challenge. Students do all their own work
and come up with their own ideas. They can make
costumes, scenery, props or use objects they already
have that might meet the challenge requirements.
Students have fun while learning to work with others and
plan to solve a problem in the most creative way. The
Rising Star program is non-competitive. Although
students must register in December, teams do not start
meeting until January. The program ends with their
performance at MICA Region 8 tournament (this year on
March 7, 2009 at Utica High School) in front of the
specially trained rising Star ap"praise"rs., which is
always a great experience for the children.

Congratulations to our "Seneca" Middle Level
team. This team placed 1st in their challenge (B: Instinct
Messaging) at (the 5 county) regional competition held 3/07/09
at Utica H. S., and also received a special award, a "Da Vinci
Award," for the exceptional creativity in their performance.
At state competition, held 4/04/09 at Central
Michigan University, the team placed 5th in the state, and won
another
Da Vinci Award
for exceptional creativity of presentation! Only 3 Da
Vinci Awards were presented at state with hundreds of teams
competing.
Since the program is
cross-district, 6 of the students attend 6th or 7th grade at
Seneca and the other student attends 7th at Iroquois. You can
find out more about the program on the district website under
"Destination ImagiNation." Our district program for DI is
called "Chippewa Valley Imagine!" and is open to all students in
grades K-12 interested in creative problem solving.

The program had a very successful
2007-2008 school year. Team "Seneca", comprised of Andrew Belprez, Daniel Ciesielski, Aaron Fanaee, Evan Leedy, Tyler
Piekarski, Paige Rueter adn Ryan Rueter, placed first at MICA
Region 8 competition. The team competed in Middle Level
