Academics

Bright futures begin at Chippewa Valley Schools

At Chippewa Valley Schools we offer a caring, safe, and child-centered environment where students are challenged by high academic standards. From our comprehensive all day kindergarten program to our award-winning high schools we offer a variety of learning opportunities for students of all ages.

Learning opportunities in CVS are grounded in the Michigan State Common Core Standards and learning is measured by a variety of assessments that ensure the success of all students. In recent years, the Michigan DOE has adopted rigorous new standards that ensure all students are college and career ready. Chippewa Valley Schools is deeply committed to implementing these new standards through a continuous school improvement process, which includes curriculum review, multi-tier system of supports, data driven decision making, and implementation of new programs and materials.

Science Olympiad, LEGO Robotics and Destination Imagination provide gifted students with academic, problem-solving and communication activities. Our teams consistently win at the county level and go on to participate in the state competition. Our special Youth Enrichment Program offered through Community Education provides elementary students with new and extended learning experiences in fine arts and foreign language.

At the high school level students can enroll in a more intensive course of study by enrolling in advanced placement courses to help prepare them for college and university. Chippewa Valley also offers a full range of programs in Career and Technical Education (CTE) including courses in Medical Careers, Automotive Technology, Megatronics, Business (including Business Management, Accounting and Finance and Information Technology), Construction Trades, Design Technology (Engineering and Architecture), Graphic Design, Hospitality & Culinary Arts, Marketing, Teacher Cadet Program and Woodworking & Cabinetmaking.

Chippewa Valley High School and Fox Elementary School were awarded the Michigan Exemplary School Blue Ribbon designation. Dakota High School has been named a top ranked high school by Newsweek magazine and both Cherokee and Ottawa Elementary School have been named Reward Schools by the Michigan Department of Education for top academic growth.
