Try-outs for all three levels of Sideline Cheerleading next Fall are being held on June 7th and 8th from 5:00 – 7:30 pm in the Aux gym and on June 9th beginning at 2:45 pm. The Detroit Sports Commission will be visiting our lunches today to promote the 2023 Xenith Prep Kick Off Classic, our first football game of next school year.

Seniors, we hope you enjoyed the annual breakfast to begin your day today. Now you should be in your first hour class. You are expected to stay in class all hour. When the bell rings to dismiss first hour, seniors should head to the auditorium for a presentation. Bring all of your things with you because you will be leaving directly from the auditorium after the presentation. You will not be permitted to enter back into the school. If you did not pick up your cap, gown, lawn sign, and commencement tickets yesterday, you can get them in the auditorium lobby before you leave. For those attending the senior all night party, we will welcome you back to the auditorium lobby at 9 PM tonight for check-in. You must be checked in by 10 PM and you must stay until the party ends at 3:30 AM.

First, I would like to commend all students, staff, and parents, as well as the Clinton Township Police, for the response to the situation that began on Monday morning and continued into yesterday. Thank you also to all other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, who worked to identify the threat and let us know that we are safe. I'm looking forward to a positive final full day for our seniors.

Seniors, cap, gown, lawn sign, and commencement ticket distribution will take place in the auditorium lobby after school today. In order to receive your commencement tickets, you will need to have all fees paid in full, and your laptop, textbooks, and all athletic equipment and uniforms returned. You can find details about any fees owed by logging in to PaySchools Central. We encourage you to turn your laptop in as soon as possible any time during the day today. Take your laptop, cord and case to the media center. They will have tables set up for cleaning. After cleaning, you will take it to a check in station to have it checked in and get a receipt. You will need that receipt in the auditorium after school.

We have a locker clean out scheduled for seniors today at 9:10 AM, the end of 2nd hour.

The SANP committee will be in the cafeteria during all lunches today to pass out SANP t-shirts to students attending the Senior All Night Party.

Tomorrow morning at 6:15 AM we will have our Senior Breakfast in the West Lot by the tennis courts. Then seniors will attend 1st hour classes, and then head to the auditorium 2nd hour for a presentation before being dismissed. The All Night Party begins at 9 PM tomorrow night with entry through the auditorium lobby.

Last Friday night the following students qualified to compete in the MHSAA State Track meet. Justin parker, Darren Hawkins and Jailen Thomas qualified in the 4x100 Meter relay. Kaelin Shaw was the fourth member of that relay who also qualified in the long jump. Jordan Monroe in the discus, Kalia Monroe in the Shot Put, Jack DeWaele (last name sounds like D Wally) in the 3,200 meter run. Jack also broke the school record which was set in 1987. Mia Barnett in the 100 meter hurdles, breaking her own record for the second time this season. She also qualified in the long jump. Chris Estell in the 4x200 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay. Jonas Morris in the 400 meter run, the 4x200 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay. Shamar Heard in the 400 meter run, the 4x200 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay. Noah Morris in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, the 4x 200 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay. The boys team brought home the championship trophy which is on display in the athletic office.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected as nominees for the Sutton Foster Awards based on their performance in Beauty and the Beast. Charlie Anderson - as Lumiere, Taylor Pozzi - as LeFou, Courtney Serra - as Belle, and Holly Zamojski - also as Belle. They have been rehearsing at the Fisher Theatre this month with students from over 50 other schools, and they all performed there last night and did an incredible job. Additionally, Congratulations to the entire cast of The CVHS production of Beauty and the Beast! We were selected for top choreography in the state! Last year we earned first place for Seussical and this year we were recognized again for Beauty and the Beast! Congratulations to all of you!

Great job by our choir program last night. Congratulations on a terrific concert and a great year of music and growth and connections.

I hope that everyone takes some time to enjoy the student art show that is in the showcases by the front office and in the auditorium entry way. Many of our students are represented this year and are very proud to exhibit what they have accomplished. I was blown away by the style, creativity, and talent on display. And art students you can pick up your work from the art show in the art rooms after C lunch on Wednesday the 24th.

Chippewa Valley’s Baseball Cuts for a Cure Home Run Derby will take place tomorrow at 5pm.

The Coalition Teen Council senior members will have a lunchroom table today. CTC would like to remind you that you have worked hard and deserve to enjoy the rest of the school year. In 2020 there were over 11500 car crashes that involved substances. Those numbers don’t even touch the other reasons for teen car crashes from texting & driving. Stay true to yourself, make healthy choices, create great memories that can be positive for years to come. Come by the table during lunch hours: take the mini questionnaire, get a giveaway, & sign the banner.

Here is some important information for you to know about the event:

If you are participating, exit the E doors, the bus doors, or the doors by the gym directly after 1st and/or 4th hours. Make sure to wear your wristband for entrance. Wristbands and T-shirts will be passed out during your 3rd hour class on May 18th.

Participating students will be marked as school business. Students are expected to stay in the stadium for the hours they signed up for (hours 2-3 and/or 5-6). You cannot go back into the building until the end of 3rd hour or the end of the day. Students are expected to be on time to their 4th hour class/lunch.

Make sure to bring money to purchase concessions and to participate in the $5 pie a teacher event!

Nonparticipating students will report to their regular schedule of classes. The only exception to this is if one of your teachers is participating in the Rally. Those teachers will inform their students of this and direct you to report to the auditorium for that hour only (students will need to sign in once there).

If you are participating in the afternoon session, you will be watching the powder puff game and an exciting half time show from the stadium bleachers. Fifth hour, you are to report directly to the home bleachers. You will stay in the bleachers and be dismissed at 2:11 pm.

Reminder of attendance policy regarding tardies: Be sure that you are getting to class on time. Teachers may assign a detention after a student reaches 4 tardies and 8 tardies. At 10 tardies, assistant principals may assign in school suspension and at 11 tardies, you will be placed on attendance probation and be at risk of losing credit in the class, or for seniors, you will not be allowed to participate in commencement.

Our elementary and middle schools wanted me to remind you that you are not allowed on their playgrounds and fields during the school day. Also, while they appreciate students wanting to visit former teachers, you may only do so with an appointment made in advance. This will help to keep those schools safe and allow them to do their work. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Michigan Student Leadership (MASC/MAHS) Summer Leadership Camp is happening this July! Camp is open to ANY student entering grades 7-12. Learn more here.

Due to generous grants from the State of Michigan and Corporate Partners, the Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation is sponsoring one-week technology camps for girls across the State of Michigan that introduce them to computer technologies through hands-on activities in a are fun and engaging way. Each session will engage students in age-appropriate topics ranging from game design, website design and robotics programming. During the sessions, campers will have an opportunity to meet with professional women and men who work in technological fields and explore the many exciting and rewarding tech careers. Each week-long technology camp includes a light breakfast and lunch. It is Teacher Appreciation Week. Students, think about how much you rely on, are supported by, and learn from your teachers. Please make an effort today and throughout the week to say thank you and to show your appreciation for all they do for you.

Congratulations to all of our seniors who were recognized last night for achieving at the highest academic levels based on cumulative GPA. Those with a GPA of 3.5 and above were recognized as Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude. This represents dedication and engagement throughout your high school career. Congratulations.

Anyone that is interested in joining the color guard this coming fall and joining the marching band on the field for football games and competitions along with performing in a couple of parades - we are holding spring meetings and practice Tuesday, May 9 and 23 from 6-8pm, meet in the band room. No experience necessary, we will train you.

Registration for Chippewa’s Rally in the Valley is open through May 15th. Information for this event is attached to announcements. Juniors and seniors, you have until May 7th to sign up for powderpuff using the link or QR code on announcements.

Juniors and seniors, if you are planning on playing or coaching powderpuff on May 19th during 5th and 6th hour you must purchase a shirt through the sign up link. The link closes at midnight this Sunday! There will be no extensions, so click the link, purchase a shirt and be ready to play!

This past weekend, HOSA had 10 students compete in the State Leadership Conference in Traverse City. Amanda Doehr placed 4th in Human Growth and Development, and Mansi Karia was elected as a MI HOSA State Officer. Congratulations to all students who attended!

Today is a Pride Day. Today we remember the value of being prepared, respecting others, having integrity, and being dedicated and engaged. Take pride in yourself and be proud to be a Big Red.

The 2023 Chippewa Valley / SkillsUSA Engine Build Team attended the 2nd Annual Macomb Community College Engine Challenge Competition on Friday, April 28th, 2023.
The teams competing this year included Chippewa Valley, Lakeview, and Lapeer. All teams were tasked with disassembling and re-assembling a Small Block Chevy engine within a 2-hour window. The team with the quickest build time and least number of faults becomes the winner of the contest. At the end of the assembly process, the engine must start up and run. The day progressed well with Chippewa and Lakeview taking an early lead. Lapeer was only moments behind. All 3 teams' engines started up and the event was an outstanding experience for all involved.

Please join me in congratulating this year’s Chippewa Valley Engine Build team for finishing in 1st place with a combined disassembly and re-assembly time of just over 1 hour.
